What is a skylight?
Skylight is installed on the roof of a cowshed. It can be half round or sharp. It is better if a building stands across the main wind direction. In this case the air outflow will be more effective.
Construction has the following design:
1. Aluminum profile
The frame itself needs to be lightweight enough, that is why its parts are often made of aluminum. The parts are welded together and form durable, solid, corrosion resistant structure, not afraid of aggressive environmental influence. The length of the section is usually 3 meters.
2. Covering
Lighting panels are made of transparent polycarbonate, which doesn’t let ultra-violet rays in. They are not heavy, preserve heat well, withstand shock, moist and have excellent optical characteristics. Thanks to this, construction transmits more than 82% of natural light.
3. Valves
In order to regulate air flow during winter period, a system of adjustable valves is used. They can be opened and closed manually or by means of automatic drive. Additionally, the skylight can be connected to the automatic microclimate combined with fans and curtains. In this case it will be needed to install a climate control system and weather meter.
Construction is assembled in-place and is fastened to the structural elements of the roof. Optionally, bird net can be also added.

1. Continuous air output
Combination of ventilation curtains and the skylight allows to organize high performance system of suction-and-exhaust ventilation. It creates the effect of drawing out moist, warm and ammonia-saturated air through the valve. Thus, you don’t have to worry about greenhouse effect and adverse effects, associated with it.
2. Input of large amount of light
Skylight allows four times more light than side windows. As a result, the illumination of the premises reaches 170 lux or more.
3. Reducing the costs for cowshed lighting
Large amount of natural light, coming into a cowshed all year round allows to pay less for lighting of the premises. At the same time animals will feel themselves as comfortable as possible.
4. Protection of walls, floor and ceiling from fungus
Efficient ventilation eliminates the risk of condensate formation inside a cowshed, and consequently, formation of fungus and malignant bacteria. Animals get sick less often and risk of epidemic becomes minimal.
5. Resistance to environmental factors.
The construction itself is proof against moisture, temperature changes, direct sunlight, as well as corrosion and shocks.
